Clear Hills Youth Treatment Centre (CHYTC) is seeking a compassionate, flexible, and culturally aware Part-Time Teacher. This is a meaningful opportunity to support youth ages 12–17 on their healing journey, with a focus on recovery, wellness, and cultural reconnection. The Teacher will provide individualized and small-group instruction to support Warriors in reaching their educational goals, while addressing their unique needs in a treatment setting.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
This includes assessing each Warrior’s academic level, creating and delivering learning plans, adjusting lessons to fill gaps, and keeping a safe, supportive classroom that helps Warriors succeed. The Teacher will track and document student progress, keep accurate records, and provide updates to the Program Manager to support steady academic development. The Teacher will maintain a respectful, trauma-informed classroom, encourage positive behaviour, and help Warriors build accountability, organization, and study skills.
All CHYTC policies, procedures, and accreditation standards for the health and safety of the Warriors must be followed at all times.
REQUIRED EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and implement individualized learning plans based on each Warrior’s academic level and needs.
- Communicate and consult with Warrior’s school program and Power School is required
- Provide instruction in core subject areas aligned with Alberta curriculum standards.
- Modify curriculum and assignments to accommodate learning with diverse abilities.
- Maintain accurate records and progress reports.
- Support Warriors in developing positive study habits, organization, and life skills.
- Collaborate with clinical and program staff to support each Warriors overall care plan.
- Integrate culturally relevant teachings and trauma-informed practices into the classroom setting.
- Ensure that all recommendations from Accreditations are implemented.
- Ensure that cultural activities are offered and participation is encouraged.
- Provides direct support to Warriors in individual and group activities.
- Provides supervision to Warriors when participating in individual and or group activities.
- Provides individual aid to support Warriors in transitioning through program delivery.
- Develop and execute program plans and services, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
- Provide program status updates and reports to the Program Manager, highlighting achievements, challenges, and action plans.
- Write and report incidents of program irregularities and concerns to the Program Manager and assist in strategically resolving matters of concern
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained in any documentation regarding warriors.
- Participate in staff training, i.e., Anger Management, Group Work.
- Assist in aftercare planning for education supports.
- Assist in the organization and arrangements completion ceremonies for warriors with staff in consultation with Cultural Practitioner, Program Manager/Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Education
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
- Experience with vulnerable youth or in care-based programs.
- Current (no more than 3 months old) Criminal Record Check and child Welfare Information Check.
- Open availability to provide services to Warriors on weekdays, evenings, and weekends to accommodate to needs of Warriors.
- Possess a valid driver’s license, clear driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to work with youth and families from diverse communities.
- Advanced knowledge of Indigenous wellness practice.
- Experience in the public or non-profit sector.
- Ability to speak an Indigenous language would be an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Travel as required and/or requested.
- Demonstrates self-control, stays composed under pressure, manages emotions effectively, and responds calmly in challenging situations.
- Additional hours may be required based on Warriors needs.
- Interacts extensively with employees, various management levels, and the public
- Ability to lift to 25 pounds.
CHYTC is a Treatment Centre that supports up to 10 youth at a time, each with unique needs. We are located 5 minutes from Hythe, Alberta, and approximately 45 minutes from Grande Prairie, Alberta.
